The following is an extract from our leaflet Racial Harassment - Don't Let it Follow You Around.

Copies of the leaflet can be obtained from KREC, and are available translated into Gujarati, Hindi, Korean, Urdu, Bengali, Chinese, Punjabi, Tamil, Arabic, French and Portuguese.

Racial harassment is:

Violence which may be verbal or physical and which can include attacks on properties as well as on the person, suffered by individuals or groups because of their colour, race or ethnic origin.

Examples include:

  • Physical assault
  • Damage to property
  • Racist or other offensive graffiti
  • Arson
  • Causing an affray
  • Verbal abuse of a racist nature
  • Threatening or abusive behaviour

Who can I contact if I suffer racial harassment?

(And don't worry, you won't have to persuade us to take you seriously).

If its an emergency dial 999

Contact the Police on 0208 541 1212 and ask for your local Police Station for advice and assistance.

Contact Kingston Race and Equalities Council on 0208 547 2332 for counselling, advice and support.

If you are a council tenant you can contact the Housing Estate Manager on 0208 547 5197 for advice and assistance.

Departments of the Royal Borough of Kingston

Social Services provides information and advice about services which are available. Ring 0208 547 6008.

Education Welfare can offer advice and support to parents and pupils. Ring 0208 547 5253.

Racist Graffiti Removal. The Royal Borough of Kingston's Information Line will take details of racially offensive graffiti and pass them on to the relevant agency for removal.

Victim Support. Kingston provides support and practical assistance to individuals who suffer distress as a result of experiencing racial harassment. Ring 0208 547 3202.
