Bringing All Communities Together to have Fun!!!
Welcome to Kingston Carnival 2008!
This year’s Carnival promises to be more colourful and spectacular than ever with two main stages and two procession parades featuring the cream of London’s mas bands – Paddington Elimu and Beerahaar Sweet Combination – who are going to be bringing massive Carnival vibes from the previous weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival.
Head to the Market Place and the Guildhall for a day filled with fun for all the family.
The Carnival Team want to make Kingston Carnival the best celebration event in the whole region. So, get into your most colourful clothes and join us! Join in the processions, dance along to the music, try the international foods- but most of all- Have Fun and Enjoy!
Carnival Procession Time
Carnival wouldn’t be carnival without the procession- and Kingston’s got two!
The action starts at 12pm outside HSBC on Clarence Street. Follow the music and the Mas bands along Clarence Street into the Market Place and over to the Guildhall.
The second procession starts at 3pm in the Market Place
Entertainment
The two performance stages have fantastic artists to keep you entertained all day.
The Carnival Main Stage at the Guildhall has the best of Carnival performers, with the Market Place Community Stage featuring up and coming musicians and dancers.
International Food Fair
Carnival marks the launch of the annual Kingston Food Festival with an International Food Fair. This is your chance to try soul food aplenty from the world’s kitchens: Carnival favourite Jerk Chicken from Jerk Island, traditional North African/Moroccan Exotic Tagine, Korean Hankook Restaurant, Chinese food regular Cammasan; exotic assortments of fruits from Just Thai Fruits and Thai dishes, and new-comer Bangladeshi Deea Restaurant.
The Food Festival continues until September 20th.
Other Exciting Activities
There will be Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Martial Arts, Capoeira, Street Dance, Face Painting, Henna, Tarot Cards, Salsa dances, and lots more in Clarence Street, Market Place and the Guildhall.
Special activities will be provided for children at the Children’s Area at the Guildhall and Market Place, and there’s a chance to learn about a number of different community organisations and the services that they provide.
